Casebook, 1863 Sept. 1-1864 Dec. 24, of Martin S. Kittinger while serving as a surgeon in the Union Army. Records individual cases of soldiers wounded in combat and treated by Kittinger while he was stationed at Flying Hospitals 10 A.C. and 24 A.C. in the vicinity of Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia. Entries record the patient's name, age, regiment, the nature of the injury suffered, and a description of the treatment and surgical procedure pursued, along with a follow- up account of the patient's recovery or demise from the condition. Includes a copy of a letter addressed by Kittinger to Brigidier General and Medical Director of Hospital 24 A.C., Lavington Quick, reporting autopsy results in the case of Private Samuel Farnsworth. Other patients include: John Hughes, Henry Kuntz, William Sanders, Edward Shibely, Leonard Stockwell, John W. Trowbridge, and George Zimmerman.
